From 1850 to 1939 Heir Island had a fleet of over 40 small sailing boats. These boats sailed from Heir Island as far as Ballycotton fishing for lobster supplying the transatlantic liners. Cormac Levi’s book, Towelsail Yawls, The Lobsterboats of Heir Island and Roaringwater Bay, documents the lives of these amazing fishermen.
